My design style
My style has changed a little over the years, which I believe is totally normal. However what has stayed true has always been my interest in combining multiple images with textures, brushes and patterns. My style however has pretty much become what I call, "textured collaging". I love to combine photos or sketches with textures such as newspaper, old book pages or floral patterns. I'll even scan everything myself after tearing off pieces of photos or smudging them with dirt; this is actually a Décollage approach. I do not see this sort of style much in online designing, which is why I think it makes my approach unique. I think it is also very interesting for visitors to experience as you can interpret what I make in many different ways. I go about doing most of my designs in this way now, and my method is pretty simple. I will make about half of the design on actual paper and then use a scanner to transfer the collage into Photoshop. There, I add more to it to finish the look. A scanner is a great tool and is no less versatile a technique as any other technique in the visual arts. Almost everything can be placed on a scanner, from parts of a body to plants. I recommend experimenting with them!
Welcome
I finally changed this drastic and abused place. Now you can easily view my past layouts in a more organized and eye-friendly fashion. It's great to see how things have progressed and how my styles have changed over the years. ♥ Victoria

025 Version: Volta
Once again, I was in a bit of a rut for a new idea. I just happened to be on Bjork's website, reading about her latest Album, and I spotted these
two photographs of her. If you don't know much about Volta, the album art uses some really crazy costumes, as well as some very intense color schemes full of
reds, yellows and oranges. However, these two photos that I saw, were the complete opposite, like the album went bi-polar! They were earthy looking
and very serene. SO, I decided to use them for the summer design. I just went with elements from the photos, and used some ornamental, lacy brushes
that created an overall aged look. I also decided to be fun with the navigation, and use rollovers, which I think are always fun for visitors. Anyway,
after a few color adjustments, the finished product is what you see on the domain. Thank you once again, Bjork!
past layouts
Below lists all the past layouts of Besaid.com. This does not include
the past layouts for all my shrines and sites as well- only those
appearing on the main domain. The screen caps are not full size, sorry!
Click their thumbnails to view the larger size.
001 Version: Black & White
This
was my first layout for besaid.com. It was an i-frame/divs layout that
featured Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. I used some old brushes from
V-Brush and experimented with fading images and opacity. For my first
big layout, I was pretty happy with it because I never thought I could
make something like it. Although it was colorless and simple, it
brought a lot of attention to my new domain. The splash page was really
beautiful, too but I never screen-capped it.
002 Version: Come What May
Version 2's layout was very pretty but a little boring because it was just a
div layers layout and well I used brown. I blended the main image
enough so it had a little glow to it which saved the layout from
looking just plain ugly. It featured Nicole Kidman from Moulin Rouge!
and lyrics from the song "come what may". I wish I did more too it but
I was just starting to use photoshop during this point.
003 Version: Sarah
NO SCREENCAP SAVED
004 Version: Days of Thunder
This
slim frames layout was very posh in appearance. I focused the entire
layout around a warm peach color and I decided to use another Nicole
Kidman image. I really enjoyed it's sleek look even though I kept it
simple. I also pixelated a lot of it and used a very technical font
choice. It was up for the spring and received many nice comments.
005 Version: Chosen
At
this point, I really wanted to try something new because I was sick of
my ultra simple layouts. I looked for many images until I came across a
Buffy website. Here I decided that I wanted my domain to not only focus
on video games but also Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So, I found a great
lined pattern, some beautiful brushes and put this baby together. This
was of course, my favorite layout at that time.
006 Version: Vaan
NO SCREENCAP SAVED
007 Version: Silence
Silent
film theme, yaay! So yes, I made this beautiful layout featuring the
silent film star, Marguerite Clarke. I made other silent film layouts
throughout the domain to go along with the theme. I blended two images,
one of the woman, and another of roses. Many brushes were used as well.
I got a lot of really nice comments on this layout, so thank you to
everyone. It featured lyrics from Sarah Brightman's "Eden".
008 Version: In This Labyrinth
This
lovely layout was made for me by a dear friend, Sarah. It featured a
haunting blend of images from The Phantom of the Opera film Version:. I
really enjoyed this layout and thank Sarah so much for the nice gift. I
received many nice and thoughtful comments on it as well, so thank you!
I loved this one and it was up for quite a while, too.
009 Version:: Ayu
I
am actually proud of this layout because it had a really awesome blend
of Ayumi Hamasaki images and of course was colored with hues of purple
and pink. I used a variety of brushes which made this all together, one
spiffy looking layout that is hard not to stare at! I'll make sure to
create another Ayumi layout in the future because she has the most
unique photos.
010 Version:: Rinoa & Squall
SCREENCAP LOST
011 Version:: Padme
After
seeing Episode III, I was inspired to make a Star Wars layout featuring
the tragic Padme. I found a beautiful original artwork of her death and
blended it with some other images of her character. It was a very
solemn and sad layout that reflected what I felt about her after seeing
the movie. I recieved some nice comments so thanks to everyone. Star
Wars was not only a wonderful collection of film but the concept
artwork is truly magnificent as well.
012 Version:: Leia
This
layout was a semi-vector featuring a large image of Princess Leia from
Star Wars along with Luke and Han. I liked this layout because it was a
change and it was very clean lined. I used many brushes of flowers and
stardust to give it a little pop. However, I got slightly sick of it after only a month. Look for more star wars layouts in the future because boy am I obessed.
013 Version:: Everlasting Love
Oh
how a sailormoon layout was in much need! I felt like using an
anime/manga image for once and I chose this image because it's
beautiful and sweet. This layout was cute while it lasted but a change
was needed after two months. To all you people out there who are
thinking sailormoon?!, get over it because you know you watched it too back in the 6th grade. It will forever be my aww layout.
014 Version:: Build High
I
came across a gorgeous photo of a Christian science church. Although
i'm not religious in any way, I do love architecture and churches and
cathedrals always have some of the most extravagant and beautiful
designs. I edited the photo which was taken by a professional and
changed the coloring so I got an array of purples and blues. It came
out great and thank you to everyone for the comments! The navigation
was also a little different with the boxes that faded in and out.
015 Version:: Forlani
At
this point, I was running out of ideas for a new layout. As much as I
liked the last one, it was up for a very long time. I was just watching
a movie and Claire Forlani happened to be in it. She is an extremely
talented actress but not many people know about her. I decided to use
her for my next layout, especially because I discovered this awesome
photo of her lying down. The layout turned out great, with a slight
rustic and antiqued feel. I changed the navigation again and brushes
used are from Insomniac.
016 Version:: Lady of Shallot
This
layout of Besaid.com features a gorgeous painting by John William
Waterhouse. It is called the lady of shallot and It illustrates the
lines:
And down the river's dim expanse,
Like some bold seer in a trance,
Seeing all his own mischance,
With a glassy countenance,
Did she look to Camelot.
And at the closing of the day,
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott.
017 Version: Rogue
This creation was the Spring layout for Besaid.com, featuring the
extremely talented actress, Anna Paquin. Due to the spring release of
X-men III, I decided to use my favorite character of the trilogy, Rogue
(played by Anna). Being very warm and springy, I used a great
photo shoot image and transformed it into a light and airy image
featuring light and pastel hues. To learn more about Anna Paquin, visit

018 Version: Oceania
You are currently viewing the Summer layout for Besaid.com, featuring
the artistic and crazy musician, Bjork! She's one of my favorite
musicians and she always takes the most
unique photographs out of any other person. For the layout, I wanted
something
extremely simple and fast, but creative and original looking. So, I
experimented with some brushes and stamp affects and came up with this
little design. Very vintage, very pretty. I think I can now claim this
as my "style".
019 Version: Harem
Even
though my last layout was supposed to stay up all summer, I couldn't
wait to post this up. I was playing around a bit with some scanned
images from my Sarah Brightman book from one of her concerts. So, since
the main images aren't exactly clear, (and they aren't supposed
to be), I'll explain. The image on the left which is orange-y, is Sarah
holding out her hands which are full of bright orange lotus blossoms.
The second image is a profile image of her also holding the flowers. It's
really quite simple but I used many layering effects and small, small
brushes which have little text and lyrics. This stayed up for over two months.
020 Version: Summoner
Since this domain is named after a FFX location, you'd think I'd use some FFX
images. Have I? No! So, finally, I've created this layout featuring the
peaceful summoner, Yuna. At first, I put down gray newspaper brushes to
give it a "grungy" or messy feel. Then I overlayed some images of Yuna,
cut parts of them out, put more brushes and text over them and did an
overall gradient effect. I chose purple because it's my favorite color
and looked great with gray.
021 Version: Revolution
I was obviously inspired by Sophia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette for this design; she isn't exactly my favorite
historical figure but I loved this film for its rich color and cinematography. I just had a lot of fun making this
look antique-ish but also modern like the movie. It's very pink! I usually hate this color but it just needed to
be used for this and I don't think it's overkill. The images used and quotes are all from the spunky and artistic film.
Brushes once again used from pootato.org!
022 Version: Order of the Phoenix
For the July release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I made this design as a partial summer replacement.
July was also the month of the release of the final book in the series, so naturally, a Harry design was totally appropriate!
I took three official movie Poster images to re-create the large banner I already had for the design. I used one of Sirius Black, one of Harry Potter and one of Ron Weasley and
blended them together. I also used some blending and layering techniques along with a stronger gradient to go over the
already amazing colors of the official posters. The result came out great and it's one of my favorites designs thus far.
Expect more HP designs to follow!
022 Version: Dreams
This layout for the domain uses div layers and tables. The design banner was created using a series of
brushes with one main image that I cropped and used several times. I overlayed everything with a series of simple
gradients and colors. The title part features a quote from Albus Dumbledore of the Harry Potter Series. The background
is a Victorian inspired pattern. This design stayed up for a while, almost 6 months actually. It is definitely my favorite thus far. I just liked
the overall navigation system because I think it was a lot easier for visitors to access.
023 Version: French Kiss
One night I was going through my Vogue and New York Times style magazines and started
tearing out amazing photographs of Marion Cotillard. She's a French actress who was
being featured for her recent film, "La Vie En Rose", with some really gorgeous high fashion photographs. So, I scanned
this one in particular where she is wearing this over the top blue layered dress. From there, I just went
with the rips and the crinkles and added some hair and dirt brushes to age everything completely. This
is my darkest design yet but I really, really love it. I think it brought some drama to the webworld for the horrible NY winter period.
You can view her spread online at the New York Times
website.
024 Version: Free People
This layout made it like I was promoting Free People and their genuinely expensive street wear. I could have been, but uhm, no, not really. I
am subscribed to their catalogs which often use an incredible photographer who's name I wish I knew! Anyway, I scanned two images of this
one particular model wearing this gorgeous cut out shirt that I really wanted, but can't afford. The photographs are very appropriate for
Spring, or the Spring that took forever to reach New York. The design uses the same template that I created for the last layout because
I didn't have enough time to code something completely new. Still, it was very different from the last. It was also really, really
large, so sorry for people who have small screens. I used some great aging brushes from pootato.org if you want to find some for yourself to use.
This Layout
This current layout features no images, but brushes from pootato.org. I made this in photoshop 7
and it uses div layers.
